Troubleshooting a Broken Computer

Power supplies for desktop computers are available online and at local stores. They also cost about $ 100. A new supply need not be installed on a computer for testing the power supply. Just lay the computer on its side with the chassis open, place the new power supply at the top of the old power supply, remove the old power supply with a connector at a time, and connect the equivalent computer power connector at a time. Once the new power supply is connected to try to turn on the computer. This proves the power supply.

A new power supply that provides more watts is fine. This means a 300 W power supply can be replaced by a power of 500 W. Not the best way to reduce power supply (replacing a power of 500 W of power with a power of 300 W), but good for size. Power connections to floppy drives can easily cut the power source when the connector is not plugged in just right. If the computer does not start, and then disconnect the cable from the floppy drive and try to power the drive off. Finally, all power connections are grooved and has a connector clip. When connecting power connectors make sure the clip connector is properly aligned.

If the new processor does not fix the laptop's power, then you can return the laptop to the manufacturer for repair or buy a new laptop. If you buy a new laptop, the data can be removed from the unit's old laptop hard drive and moved to the unity of the new portable hard drive. With a desktop PC, just un-bolt the old power supply and bolt in the new. Replacing the power supply of a computer is cleaner and easier than replacing the spark plugs in a car.

Now back to our problem solving. The next indication of possible error is that the computer does not boot and no display. The monitors have a light in the bottom right. When this light is green, the computer is sending a video signal to the monitor. If the light is large, then the computer is not sending a video signal to the monitor.

When no video signal sent to the monitor indicates that the problem is hardware. This suggests that we look inside the computer itself and see the main logic board (MLB) capacitors (which are the round tower and the components that protrude from the MLB). Motherboards logic does when five years of age due to the capacitors in the MLB not. Capacitors burst and cause a total loss of the MLB. When this occurs, the solution is buying a new computer.

When a computer is first turned on, usually shows the BIOS configuration information before attempting to start Windows. This information should flash briefly on the monitor as the computer starts. When it does, it shows that your own computer and display function correctly. After this screen, Windows can boot with a black or blue screen. He sometimes referred to as the "blue screen of death". In any case no starting Windows. This error indicates a hard drive that failed. Usually means that your computer is working fine, but the drive has failed to provide information to a PC to start Windows. Because you can not boot into Windows, there is no way to test the drive. In this case the drive must be removed from the computer and connect to a Windows computer to another for testing. The drive test command is Windows CHKDSK / R. When this command is run on Windows, tests the disk drive, correct any data corruption on the disk, and determines if there are physical errors on the disk.

Drive material errors are indicated by any number greater than zero in the test results report defective sectors. When physical errors or bad sectors are reported, this means that the drive has cancer. While the unit is not dead, it must be replaced immediately and copy data from it to the new drive. Continued use of a disk with bad sectors, you risk losing all data on the drive. The difficult part of replacing a hard drive is copying all data from the old drive to new drive. There are programs that allow imaging of the entire hard drive and then a new hard drive. If an image is successfully created and then copy them to a new drive, the Windows computer often returns to normal operation as if nothing had happened.

In some cases, when Windows data is placed in a new hard drive, Windows still does not start. In this case, installing Windows on Windows to Windows XP or install a fresh copy of Windows to Windows 7 usually solves the problem. To install a fresh copy of Windows in either case (Windows XP or Windows 7), while preserving data drive only need to delete the Windows folder of the drive where the new copy of Windows is being installed. It is also a good idea to rename the Documents and Settings folder or folders for user data contained in them is preserved.

This completes the basic PC hardware troubleshooting. When a computer boots into Windows and still have problems, then most likely a software problem. Software problems are usually resolved by reinstalling Windows or by removing some software viruses and computer use.
